It’s safe to say Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has a gripe with the officiating from the team’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday.

James posted a photo on his Instagram story Monday that showed his arm with multiple open cuts and visible blood.

He alluded to a conversation about the referee’s not calling a foul and finished the caption by writing “I give up man.”

This is meant to question the officiating in the game, which the Lakers won 134-110. James had 28 points, five assists and five rebounds in the contest, but it appears the physical toll he took and the lack of proper punishment remains at the top of his mind.

Portland was called for 21 total fouls on the night, which was three more than the Lakers, but the cuts to James occurred after he was inadvertently scratched by Blazers rookie Scoot Henderson in the third quarter.

It’s not the first time that James has directed frustration toward the referees in 2024, and it does continue the overall dissatisfaction that he has felt about what is being called a foul this season.

The Lakers’ win improved the team to 22-22 as it looks to rebound from a rough stretch toward the end of 2023. Los Angeles sits in ninth place in the Western Conference.
