Former NBA player Matt Barnes has been accused of allegedly threatening behavior towards a student during a high school basketball game on Friday.

He was in attendance for a game between the Harvard-Westlake Wolverines and the Crespi Carmelite Celts, the team his son plays for, when the ugly incident allegedly unfolded.

Reports say that Barnes, 43, lost his cool with the officials and gave them an earful before turning on a student, who was broadcasting the game.

It is claimed that the ex-Golden State Warriors forward, who spent 14 seasons in the NBA, threatened to “slap the s***” out of the boy as he intimidated him from the side of the court.

Harvard-Westlake broadcaster Jake Lancer said on air during the broadcast that Barnes “kind of came up and put his hands on me actually”.

The high school student later told student reporter Jack Pollon that Barnes had been going onto the court “multiple times” to argue with the referees, and he approached Lancer when they made eye contact.

What did Barnes allegedly say?

“He said ‘what do you think you’re looking at and I said ‘you’re screaming you’re a [p****]’ to the refs mid game while I’m trying to announce, don’t touch me’ and then he said ‘I’ll slap the s*** out of you, [sic]'” Lancer told Pollen.

An audio clip that was posted Saturday night showed Lancer sounding rattled as they came out of a break, while the game had to be paused while Barnes was spoken to by a group of people.

It is alleged that Barnes flew off the handle when he heard Lancer apparently tell him to “shut up”, something that the youngster had unequivocally denied.

Lancer, writing a post on X, said: “I want to make it very clear that I never told him to ‘shut up’ or anything close to that, he came up to me. All I wanted to do in the moment was get back to announcing the championship game.”

Later that evening, Barnes denied that he had threatened Lancer in a foul-mouthed post to a woman who had defended the high school senior.

Replying to a post, Barnes said: “Shut ur a** up. I was talking to the ref not you or that kid that decided to say some slick s***. Don’t let that privileged HW s*** go to your head. Idgaf who your son is.”
