There were a lot of things that happened during the opening day of the Super Bowl week on Monday when both the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs players addressed the media. But nothing more strange than David Carr‘s attempt at humor connecting the Niners tight end George Kittle to Travis Kelce‘s girlfriend Taylor Swift.

Before the Super Bowl LVIII opening ceremony, the NFL Network show Total Access did a segment where they discussed who would steal the show in the media event. Carr believed the 49ers’ George Kittle was a star that could steal the entire show. The analyst joked that if Taylor Swift saw Kittle in action, she might rethink her dating choice.

The rest of the analysts in the show were confused by his point and the show host Kimmi Chex had to remind Carr that Kittle has been married to his college sweetheart Claire Kittle for nearly 5 years. It seemed like Carr immediately regretted what he said after Chex reminded him of Kittle’s marriage. George and Claire Kittle met in college and have been married since April 2019.

As for Taylor Swift, she has embarked on the international leg of her Eras Tour. She has several shows scheduled to take place in Tokyo, Japan, including one just a day before the Super Bowl game in Vegas. Despite the inconvenience, the 13-time Grammy Award-winning singer is expected to make it to the big game to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce.

Swift and Kelce’s relationship has been one of the most discussed topics among NFL experts in the last few months. But not a lot of people have shared weirder jokes than Carr’s joke on Monday.
