KATE Middleton’s uncle Gary Goldsmith has been read the riot act by her parents after signing up to Celebrity Big Brother.

Insiders said Kate’s mum Carole — Gary’s sister — is “infuriated” and fears he could spill royal secrets on the show, which starts tomorrow night.

It comes as the Princess of Wales recuperates at home following abdominal surgery nearly seven weeks ago.

It is understood the Palace is also anxious about what Gary might say about the royals and Kate’s family.

A source said: “Gary said he’s been read the riot act by Kate’s mum Carole and her dad Michael.

“They aren’t happy he’s going into Celebrity Big Brother.

“It is infuriating for them. Kate doesn’t need this stress.”

But the source warned Prince Harry and wife Meghan could be in Kate’s uncle’s firing line.

Gary, 58, has now gone into hiding in a London hotel after arriving at the ITV studios today.

He will appear tonight during Celebrity Big Brother’s live launch.

Despite the family’s concerns, those close to him have insisted he will only speak fondly of niece Kate.

He attended her wedding to Prince William in 2011 and her sister Pippa’s marriage to billionaire James Matthews six years later.

Our insider added: “In the eyes of the public, Gary’s become the black sheep of the Middleton family. Carole is his sister, so there will always be love, but they no longer see eye-to-eye on lots of things.

“He has said he doesn’t have their blessing to go into the house but is going full steam ahead anyway.

“He wants to defend his family. Gary wouldn’t do anything to embarrass Kate or William, who he thinks a lot of.

“With Kate being out of the public eye at the moment and William shouldering a lot, the last thing they want is for Uncle Gary to be causing any embarrassment on television.

“Gary has said he knows what he is doing and has told his friends he’d never do anything to hurt his family.”

However, he could take aim at the Sussexes.

Our source said: “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are more than likely going to be in the firing line as Gary has made no secret about how little he likes them.”

He has publicly spoken about his feelings towards Prince Harry and Meghan — and blasted the former following the release of his autobiography Spare last year.

In October, Gary said of the book: “I’m particularly appalled by his vile confection of half-truths and complete fabrications because Kate is my adored niece.”

He went on to say: “Kate is self-sufficient, resourceful and extremely capable,” adding: “She is not a drama queen.”

Kate has not been seen publicly since Christmas Day and is not expected to return to official duties until next month.

Prince William is expected to be out on public engagements this week, as Gary launches a new career on reality TV.

GARY’S SCANDALS

The businessman made £30million after launching an IT company but became embroiled in scandal.

In 2009 he was caught cutting lines of cocaine for a sex worker at a wild party in Ibiza.

And he dodged jail when found guilty of hitting his fourth wife, Julie-Ann, in a drunken row.

The Sun first revealed in January how Gary had signed his ITV contract.

He is the CBB’s most controversial contestant and is joining celebrities including TV star Sharon Osbourne, music guru Louis Walsh and presenter Fern Britton.

Other stars including Coronation Street actor Colson Smith and Strictly Come Dancing’s Nikita Kuzmin are also locked down in the secret location ahead of tonight’s first episode.

Insiders said ITV think Gary will become a firm favourite for his straight-talking and the insight he could give on his niece — who will one day become Queen.

He previously auditioned for I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here! but telly sources claimed ITV backtracked after fearing he may cause embarrassment for the Palace.

Footage showed her and sister Pippa, then aged nine and seven, waving outside the church. And in 1997, the teenage sisters were at his second wedding.

CBB’s opening episode tomorrow night will be hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best on ITV1.

Stars will be seen for the first time when they exit their cars and walk into the famous house.

Big Brother was previously shown on Channel 5 before it was axed.

The last celebrity version of the show went out in 2018. The Sun revealed four years later ITV was rebooting it.
